food truck donation from laurita winery John Kate Carlos RodriguezThe very popular “Food Trucks and Firepits” event, held May 17-18 at Laurita Winery in New Egypt, raised a $7,650 donation from the winery, enough to provide  over 22,000 meals to needy residents.

Laurita Winery co-owners Ray Shea and Randy Johnson commented, “We are pleased that our efforts are able to make such a significant difference in the lives of so many people.” The name “Laurita” is derived from the first names of owners Randy Johnson’s and Ray Shea’s mothers, Laura and Rita, to whom the winery is dedicated.

Laurita, with its structure and interior built mostly from recycled or reclaimed materials, is also an eco-destination featuring two 150 year-old barns that had been destined for demolition as its structure; electricity is provided 100% from solar systems.  Both landscaping and vineyard design emphasize the value of water retention and conservation.
