Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes to play atop of the Windmill Restaurant

by Chris Jordan, Asbury Park Press —

We’re having a party — on top of the Windmill hot dog stand.

Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes will perform 3 p.m. Friday, May 23 on the roof of the iconic Windmill Restaurant in the West End section of Long Branch to kickoff the Windmill’s “10,000 Hot Dogs” fundraiser, the restaurant has announced.

“As a lifelong Monmouth County resident myself, I feel strongly about helping our neighbors put food on the table,” said Southside Johnny Lyon in a press release. “We’re all part of the same community and should look out for one another, like we’ve always done on the Jersey Shore. It’s really great to be named an honorary chair to this important campaign and I look forward to having some fun on the rooftop of the Windmill with the Jukes on Friday afternoon, to kick-off Memorial Day weekend.”

Customers who make a $5 donation at the Windmill through Labor Day will help the FoodBank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties deliver 15 meals to those in need this summer. Also, hot dog maker Sabrett will donate up to 10,000 hot dogs, matching each $5 donation with a goal of raising $50,000. That would mean 160,000 meals for Monmouth and Ocean county families.

The performance, hosted by Q104.3 DJ Sheli Sonstein, will go on rain or shine. The West End Windmill is located at 586 Ocean Boulevard in Long Branch. There are also Windmills in Brick, Belmar, Freehold, Ocean Grove, Red Bank and a second one on in Long Branch.
