Stop & Shop, The FoodBank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties, and The American Dairy Association Launch the Great American Milk Drive to Provide Milk to Children and Families in Need

Students from The Green Grove Elementary school in Neptune, joined representatives of Stop & Shop, Carlos Rodriguez the Executive Director, of The FoodBank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties and the American Dairy Association to launch the Great American Milk Drive, which will enable food banks and food pantries to provide milk for families in need.

Since many food pantries do not have refrigeration capabilities they are not able to accept donations of milk. Through the Great American Milk Drive, Stop & Shop customers will be able to make a $4 donation towards a gallon of milk by tearing off a coupon that they will find in the milk or cereal aisles and have it scanned at checkout. The FoodBank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties and the agencies it supports will provide families in need with vouchers, which the families can redeem for milk when they visit the supermarket.

The students say they understand how fortunate they are to come from households that can provide them with milk and other necessities and want to speak out for other children who are not as fortunate. Medical experts say that milk provides children with three of the top nutrients necessary in their diets: calcium, vitamin D and potassium.
